Our Northern Colorado hydrovac team was called to handle a high-stakes diesel fuel spill cleanup, 12,000 feet above sea level on Colorado’s scenic Loveland Pass.
Commissioned by CG Environmental, our role was to remove diesel-contaminated soil from a steep roadside spill area—quickly, safely, and without disrupting traffic on one of the state’s most critical mountain routes.
Loveland Pass, nestled between two major ski resorts, offers some of the most iconic views in the Rockies. But it’s more than just scenic—it’s strategic. This pass is the only legal route for trucks carrying hazardous materials through the I-70 corridor, since they are prohibited from using the Eisenhower Tunnel, which runs directly under the Continental Divide at 11,000 feet.
That means all hazmat traffic, east and west, must travel over Loveland Pass. With steep grades, sharp turns, and unpredictable conditions, the road is challenging even on the best days. Add a hazardous material incident, and it quickly becomes a serious risk to both the environment and regional transportation flow.
When a diesel fuel spill occurred on Loveland Pass, NG Companies acted quickly. The spill posed an immediate environmental risk. Therefore, the team mobilized its cleanup experts without delay.
First, NGC crews assessed the affected area. They identified the full extent of the spill and planned each step of the cleanup. Because the terrain is steep and remote, the team used specialized equipment. This gear helped them access difficult spots safely and efficiently.
Next, the crew implemented containment measures. They placed absorbent barriers along the runoff paths. These materials stopped the fuel from spreading further. Also, crews removed contaminated soil from the area. They worked steadily to prevent any fuel from entering nearby waterways.
In addition, NGC used advanced vacuum systems to extract fuel residues. These systems removed pollutants more effectively than manual scooping. The team then transported the recovered waste to approved disposal facilities. This ensured compliance with all environmental regulations.
Throughout the project, the team communicated with local authorities. They shared updates and adjusted plans immediately when needed. Because of this cooperation, everyone stayed informed and safe.
Finally, after removing the spilled fuel and contaminated soil, crews restored the site. They spread clean fill and compacted the ground. Then they inspected the area to confirm that no pollutants remained. The site was left safe for public use and wildlife alike.
NG Companies’ quick, active approach made a difficult cleanup manageable. Moreover, their experienced crew minimized both environmental impact and disruption to traffic.
In summary, NGC responded fast, planned carefully, and executed the cleanup thoroughly. Their work on Loveland Pass demonstrates how responsive action and skilled teams deliver successful spill cleanups every time.
